Commentaires: I wrote this teeny-tiny thing purely on a whim, upon hearing the song 'I'm never gonna leave your side' by Daniel Bedingfield on the radio one day and thought it was a perfect song for Ryo to think about the past, reflect on his actions toward Kaori (he was an ass, let's admit it), and regret every moment not spent by her side...

Chapitre: 1

I feel like a song without the words  

A man without a soul  

A bird without its wings  

A heart without a home  

I fell like a knight without a sword  

The sky without the sun

He was nothing. He was no one. Just an empty shell.  

He breathed, his heart beat, his blood flew in his veins… He existed.  

I fell like a ship beneath the waves  

A child who’s lost its way  

A door without a key  

A face without a name  

I fell like a breath without the air  

And every day is the same since you’re gone away  

She had been his light, illuminating his dark, ghastly world. She had been his strength… and his greater weakness. The only one capable of hurting a man with no fear. The only one capable of breaking him, destroying him…  

Her death broke his heart, crushed him… Her death has been his, too. For she had been his heart. His very life. The air he breathed.  

I gotta have a reason to wake up in the morning  

You used to be the one that put a smile on my face  

There are no words to describe how I miss you  

And I miss you every day  

She had been the only one to make him smile, the only one to make him laugh… to make him happy…  

And now she was gone.  

Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months… Long, dark months of sorrow and hurt. Months of missing her. Missing her smile, missing her eyes, her skin, her perfume, her heartbeat next to his…

He was never going to forget her. How could he. Letting go of her memory would be like letting her die all over again.  

She will always stay with him, in his heart, in his mind, deep in his blackened soul.  

They tell me that a man can lose his mind, living in the pain  

Recalling times gone by and crying in the rain  

You know I’ve wasted half the time  

And I’m on my knees again, till you come to me  

He still remembered all the beautiful moments they’ve shared together. Still remembered the first day they’ve met…  

Regretted every hurtful word he ever said to her, wanting to replace it with vows of eternal love and devotion.  

How stupid he had been. Picking on her, teasing her, hurting her, when he, better than anyone, knew how short life could be…  

Every night he apologized to her. And he’ll keep apologizing for as long as she will visit his dreams. Only in dreams was he happy again, whole again… With her again.

I lean my head against your heart, I know I’m home  

Every night he fell asleep in her arms, her breath caressing his hair, her heartbeat calming him, soothing him… only to wake up with the knowledge it has all been just a dream. That he’d never see her again. That she was gone. Forever.

This morning was no different.  

Ryo sighed, placing his hand above his heart. It still beat. Beat only for her.
